Cataloging Tool Classification System Location Mark

Classification System

The classification of documents used in our library is based on the 23rd edition of the Dewey Decimal Classification (hereinafter “DDC”), which is the most used in the world and is the most up-to-date. However, since some of the categories of this DDC are organized around Europe and America, it is difficult for Korean libraries to use them. Thus, at our library, the items related to the Eastern or Korean sections are modified and developed to constitute a separate category.

First Summary : Ten Main Classes

Main classes is the primary division of the DDC decimal system, and each main class is further subdivided into 10 hierarchical divisions.

Second Summary : Hundred Divisions

Hierarchical divisions represent the second digit of the classification code, and these classes are further subdivided into 10 divisions.

Third Summary : Thousand Sections

Divisions represent the third digit of the classification code, and divisions are further subdivided into 10 classifications.
